Who can register

  • A completed vocational training of at least 2 years, for example cook, baker, hotel or restaurant, recognised by the state in your country
  • At least 2 years of work experience in this job in the last 5 years
  • Some German, or you are learning it now. A2 helps a lot.
  • A passport valid for at least 18 months

What it costs

Recognition (about 100 to 600 EUR plus translations) and visa fees are sometimes paid by the employer and sometimes by you. We tell you before anything is due.

Not always. One route is recognition of your training in Germany. The other is the experience route: a state-recognised training of 2 years or more from your country, 2 years of experience in the last 5 years and a job that pays at least 45,630 EUR a year (2026) or pays by collective agreement.

The law sets no fixed level for these routes. Employers usually want some German, and some visa options need A2. You can register now and keep learning.

There is no general visa for helpers without training. Only special rules exist, for example for some Western Balkan countries or seasonal work agreements.

Recognition takes up to 3 months after you send complete papers. Then come the job offer, the approval and the visa. In total it often takes several months. We cannot promise dates.

Yes, for work with food. After you arrive, you attend a short briefing at the health office (Gesundheitsamt), about 30 EUR in Berlin. You need it before your first working day.
